Pyrotechnic cleanup crew

"What kind of cleanup crew carries flamethrowers?" - A soldier who didn't clear out for the passing cleanup crew on time.

Composition

Manpower

Pyrotechnic cleanup crews usually consist of small groups of units, each about 6-7 soldiers. They're typically deployed in small sectors and extracted once it's clear.

Equipment

Sector sweepers wear the lightest form of armored hazmat suit available. Fully flame retardant and immune to any form of toxic as well as protected by a layer of flexible ballistic armor and a lesser personal energy barrier. These suits are supposed to protect them against toxic fumes left behind by peacemaker and/or immortal combat and whatever it was they were fighting.

Weaponry

Sector sweepers are equipped mostly with fire, cryo or electricity-based weaponry based on the environment they're deployed in. They always carry hi-power grenade launchers and usually every squad has a demolitionist along to deal with structural hazards.

Vehicles

Sector sweepers travel exclusively on foot.

Structure

Sector sweepers are led by a squad captain who gets orders from ships in orbit or command camps far away though usually, their orders are quick and conclusive upon deployment. The only instance in which they may receive more orders from higherups is when more enemies are inbound and they need to retreat and wait for combat classes to clear the area.

Tactics

The pyrotechnic cleanup crew has its name given to it due to its primary job. After a military expedition, after soldiers have been extracted the pyrotechnic cleanup crew is sent in to deal with survivors that may have been left. This is most commonly used when a planet is colonized that is home to a hostile type of wildlife where the peacemakers deal with the majority of these creatures before the pyrotechnic cleanup crew is sent in to make sure a starting colony can be safely built.   Their orders are limited only to 'search and destroy'. They usually only deal with vermin such as large rats to keep colonies from getting attacked by dangerous wildlife that the first expedition may have overlooked while securing a site for the colonies to start building.   Sometimes though, when facing an exceptionally cruel enemy the immortals may deploy the pyrotechnic crew to find and kill enemy survivors after extraction. Their body armor makes them resistant to small arms and their demolitionist will blow up any and all forms of cover where they may be hiding, either to flush them out or let them go down with it.   Once the sector is fully cleared the pyrotechnic crew will set 'building beacons' and highlight weak defensive points that civil engineers need to keep in mind when building their colony. When they are sent in to deal with hostile military survivors they will set up forward camps before clearing out.   The immortals keep 'battle logs' of all their deployed soldiers to keep track of any operation that was authorized. Since the pyrotechnic crew's actions are usually kept a secret, especially when used against incursion survivors they show up in logs as a 'cleanup crew' sent in to deal with explosives left behind.

Training

The pyrotechnic crew has little to no combat training, they're more educated at identifying potential hiding spots for both animal and enemy alike as well as bomb disposal training and demolition techniques. They do not usually have combat training and when they do it's not specifically for being part of this crew. Their weapons are mostly easy to use and whatever combat situation they do find themselves in is usually quickly resolved in their favor.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Pyrotechnic crews are usually teleported in from orbit or brought in with APCs and dropped off roughly 100 meters from the sector they are supposed to clear. They get nor need any further assistance and because of that they only have a communication line open to the command camp or the ship that ported them in.

Auxilia

As a cleanup crew, they're not usually in need of military support but rarely they may call in more soldiers and retreat if more enemy forces show up while they work.

Upkeep

As far as maintenance goes, the pyrotechnic cleanup crew is extremely cheap to maintain. Their weapons are not as advanced as that of standard military personnel and their armor is very durable. The biggest cost of this crew is for fuel for their weapons.

Recruitment

Anyone is allowed in this crew after having sworn in secrecy. There is no physical or psychological requirement for this unit. The only requirement is a clean criminal record. However, people with a history of alcohol issues, violent outbursts or anything else that might bring the mission in danger will not be allowed in the pyrotechnic crew.

History

Pyrotechnic cleanup crews are considered military janitors by many ever since they first started recruiting. As their operations are kept mostly secret there are not many historical records of them.
