BioCon Troopers

BioCon Troopers

The BioCon troopers are a semi secret unit in service with the peacemakers' lovers division (essentially the medical branch) that have the distinction of being one of the very few military units in both the galactic council and DECTA that have a strong emphasis on magic use for their primary gimmick. BioCon troopers are recognized as units under the direct command of higher ranks, and handle much like sleeper agents for them, being integrated into a standard frontline medical chain of command until they are called upon to initiate the BioCon procedure. The term trooper is slightly deceptive, as they are not troopers, but essentially armed medical personnel. BioCon troopers are usually equipped with ample energy shields and the small weapons that can be used in medium range, such as SMGs and handguns. Most of them carry either a revolver or some sort of handheld submachine gun.   BioCon (short for Biological Control) troopers have their name for their ability to take control of enemy soldiers and afflict them with illnesses. This is known as the BioCon procedure, which is initiated when higher ups call for it. The BioCon procedure has 2 variants, labelled BioCon 1 and BioCon 2. BioCon 1 involves infecting a specific soldier with a certain affliction, usually cancer, which incapacitates the unit. This is done through an invisible magical ray cast by their harness. This is extremely useful for taking down heroes and due to the technological level of the enemies of the council, cancer is usually treatable but takes a long time. There are other, more lethal diseases for when the council wants someone off the battlefield permanently.    BioCon 2 is a far more malicious procedure, where the trooper will seek out a medical camp and infect one of the medics with a highly infectious illness, usually one that will cause symptoms that make the spread of disease much faster and harder to control. Soldiers will then get orders to contain the camp, rescue non-infected patients and handle the situation. BioCon 2 is an incredibly powerful tactical tool, as most importantly, making an enemy camp hard to approach for its own army and also an active danger to active soldiers can easily break the line and cause enemy forces to withdraw. BioCon 2 relies on a highly classified nanovirus developed during Projekt Profektus.   BioCon 3 is the most dangerous procedure, relying on a virus with zombifying capabilities. Infecting fallback points and medic camps with this virus will do more than cause the enemy to retreat. Some will die trying to contain it, more will get infected in this attempted containment with infected from adjacent or nearby medic camps and fallback points flooding into areas with more activity, responding to the sound. BioCon 3 not only distracts and disrupts enemy operations, it also turns supposed safe zones into incredibly dangerous areas and cuts them off from support behind medic camps and fallback points, leaving them sandwiched behind aggressive infected and enemy forces. BioCon 3 is used rarely, as it can easily spiral out of control and leave entire cities on lockdown.   The majority of BioCon troopers are escaped slaves that either belong to a magical race or were subjected to a regiment of biological experiments and advancements to force their body into a state of readiness for arcane mastery, both giving them the ability and knowledge to use magic. Very little people make it through this training, mostly because magic can be that taxing both mentally and physically. Those that don't make it out either have their mind broken by the process or have the memories of the procedure erased by way of a device that essentially leeches new memories made while it is attached. Once it is removed, the leeched memories are removed with it. The demographic of BioCon troopers is not coincidental, as only someone who truly hates the enemy is able to commit war crimes of this nature while also willingly keeping it a secret.   Usually, enemy forces will just leave the camp, and because the galactic council directly calls for it, they have containment specialists on standby ready to move to the medical camp by the time BioCon 2 is initialized. Uninfected soldiers left behind by their comrades and getting rescued by their supposed enemy will lead to a very fast change of mine, and with some luck some active fighters are infected with the virus and will cause further chaos among the retreating enemies. The BioCon troopers usually use a specific zombie virus (collected on the planet AXOR-87) that spreads particularly rapidly and is capable of toppling entire empires if they don't have the tools to deal with it. In short, BioCon 2 gives the peacemakers a chance to play hero and give the enemy a new problem to worry about all while causing further chaos in their army.   Because of the near diabolical nature of the BioCon troopers, which could easily tank the support of the peacemakers and galactic councile, BioCon troopers are constantly watched by agents in BODS. Their true mission is a closely kept secret, so if one of them even thinks of defecting or leaking it, BODS will have already flagged them as a potential threat and be ready to silence them.
