The Greater Gods
The Divine Pantheon
In the beginning there was only elemental chaos in the form of the Primordials. Bursting forth into creation, one by one, the gods were formed from the source in an event known as The Dawning. At first shapeless, they drifted to Izuria from the void and began shaping it in their image and how they saw fit. After shaping the world, they chose to fill it with life and created the mortal races. First came Dragons, then Elves, Dwarves, and Humans; the many other races continued being shaped from this point onward.
The Primordials awoke from their long slumber wreaking havoc across the Material Plane, killing many and destroying much. The mortal races took up arms against them, and many of the Gods did as well to protect their creation. A group of Gods, who came to be known as the Betrayer Gods, did not join in this defense, instead opting to fight alongside the Primordials against their former allies. At the conclusion of this massive war, the Greater Gods sealed the Betrayer Gods and Primordials away in pocket realms. Life progresses smoothly for millenia in this state until Vecna releases the Betrayer Gods from their prisons, resulting in The Upheaval. This war ends with both the Greater Gods and the Betrayer Gods being sealed behind the Divine Barrier, both groups influence being massively diminished.
Despite not being able to physically influence the world as they once could, the Greater Gods still do what they can to protect their creation and their followers. One can often find the gods imbuing their followers with power and influencing the physical forces of the world to best help life continue to grow. They seek to foster life and continue the protection of what they believed in before; resulting in inevitable proxy clashes with the Betrayer Gods.
