The Betrayer Gods
The Maligned Few
During the Age of Creation, a group of Gods came to the conclusion that their creation, life, was the cause of the Primordial uprising. Henceforth, they came to view existing life as an abomination that needed to be destroyed. This pantheon became the Betrayer Gods, working to slay all that existed before and create their new, superior version of life. This schism that formed became known as The Rift.
The Betrayer Gods were banished within their own prison planes by the Greater Gods at the end of the Age of Creation. Life flourished for a time until the Archlich Vecna ascended to Godhood and shattered barrier between realms, allowing the Betrayer Gods to return once more. This culminated in The Upheaval, and much death and destruction occurred across the world in the following conflicts. Ultimately, the fighting ended with The Divergence; resulting in both the Betrayer Gods and the Greater Gods being sealed away with far diminished access to the Material Plane.
In the current age, the Betrayer Gods often send their forces of destruction to wreak havoc within the world, vying for power with one another and with the Greater Gods. The ultimate goal of this group is unknown, but the devastation that their followers have caused over the centuries is clear.
