Okeke's Lichweed

Okeke's Lichweed is a perennial plant that produces sweet but spicy berries. It was discovered on the coast of the Kurbisa Lake in the Protectorate of Ghostkep by the lich Okeke.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Okeke's Lichweed plant is a medium sized weed, about the size of a dandelion plant. It has a sturdy base, with somewhat sturdy stems. Each stem produces one bright cyan flower, that blooms towards the sky. However, once the flower has matured, and begins to turn into the Okeke's Lichweed's soughtafter berries, the stems begin to bend down, drawing a resemblance to lilies of the valley. Each flower produces an average of five berries, grown in a cluster like a blueberry. The berries are a rich chocolate brown, with cyan flecks throughout. However, the flesh within the berry shares the bright cyan color of the flower. It is known for being incredibly juicy despite its small size. The seeds are very small, and there are on average 13 within a single berry. The taste of the berry is rather perfumey, with a strong spicy aftertaste and smell.

Each flower has both male and female anatomy, but cannot repoduce asexually.

Domestication

This plant is increibly difficult to domesticate, and has only had success by families of farmers that have cultivated the berries for decades.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

It is becoming more popular, but it is mostly a delicacy for the well off, as it is sweet but spicy. It is eaten raw, in pastries, or it is dehydrated and grounded up for use as a spice.

Conservation Status

Okeke's Lichweed is of least concern, as it has been cultivated over decades by the farming families that live on the coast.
