Father’s Rest

Father’s Rest is the second most populous city in Sorosia and the third most populated city in Ivaria. It is also the oldest, with archaeological digs revealing that there has been a large settlement here since the Dawn Age.

History

Prior to the Sorosian Invasion, it was known as Arcanhold, and was where the Arcane Dominion met during the time of the Wizard Lords. After the Sorosian invasion, the city was renamed Athtar’s Rest, after the God of valor and conquest. After the Coalescence, the city was renamed Father’s Rest.

Architecture

The city is known for its abundance of towering stone structures and bridges connecting them. Under the rule of the Wizard Lords, wizards lived above the commoners and refused to mingle with them. Therefore by bridging their towers and lavish keeps’ upper levels, they could visit each other and move about the city without having to see or speak with a commoner, most of whom lived in the lower, ground levels of the towers.     These towering Keep structures and connecting upper bridgeways make up much of the architecture of the southern and central areas of the city. In the years that followed the downfall of the Wizard Lords, the city’s upper and lower levels have been joined by hundreds of stairways. Though now, most of the noble class dwells in estates along the coast instead of in the old Wizard Lord keeps.   The bridgeways and lower streets are paved with dark cobblestones with flecks of green, a feature the city is also famous for.
