Athanan deer

A medium-sized herbivore found in Athana, the Athanan deer is a common source of food for both humans and dragons in the areas where it lives. Though they are characterized as living in cooler areas, mostly Athana's mountains, Athanan deer are adaptable and well-suited to living in warmer and more humid ranges as well. Their expansion across Athana is mostly hampered not by the deer themselves, but the other animals they would need to share space with, both fellow herbivores they compete against, and carnivores that prey upon them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

True to their name, Athanan deer are deer-like in appearance and anatomy. Their tails are fairly long and white on the underside, used for communication, transitioning into their paler bellies. Their coats are dark reddish brown, and may contain a few white spots on the back or flanks. As fawns their coats are entirely spotted, though they lose the majority of them within their first year.
