Duchy of Undermont

One of the territories of Arkenhorn, Undermont lies in the shadow of the Northern ridge mountains, stretching from the Great Forest to the Misty woods. It comprises of settlements spread accross foothills with one great city at the meeting of the mountains and the hills. Undermont has close connections to the Dwarves in the mountains and they were the first settlement that they actually made contact with following the Cataclysms.

Structure

Undermont operates as it did pre-unification, with the Duke/Duchess/Duchy being from the royal line of the Monarchy of Undermont. With most other Duchies being individuals appointed by the Queen, Undermont's condition of joining the union was that their royal line was appointed so that the seat would still be inherritied. Because of this, as well as being the Duke/Duchess/Duchy, the ruler of Undermont also bears the title "Petty Monarch Under the Mountain" to clearly show their standing but to seperate them from the Royal line.

Culture

Undermont culture is defined heavily by class. The nobility of Undermont are the Lairds of the castles in the hills of the duchy, and the peasants are those that serve beneath them and work the land. This structure defines much of how the land works. The peasants are given free land to work and make their life from this land. They provide for the lairds and in turn they recieve defense from the lairds.
