Duchy of Buckingskeep
One of the territories of Arkenhorn, Buckingskeep started as a highly militaristic city state that would often raid neighbouring states before Arkenhorn's unification. After the unification, Buckingskeep expanded to take much of the land it had raided in as its official territory.
Structure
The Duke of Buckingskeep is always the current General of the Keep. This person is often appointed by the Queen based on the advice of millitary councils within the Duchy.
Culture
Buckingskeep highly values millitary training and there is an expectation that young people will recieve martial training and serve in the Duchy's army.
Flamboyance in Buckinskeep is largely looked down upon and most clothing is utilitarian in nature. Extravagance is usually well made armour or versatile clothing.
One's standing in the duchy is determined by millitary capability, either by strategy or by ability. It is possible for the most lowborn citizen of Buckingskeep to rise through the ranks of society by demonstrating this (although those who are born in good position will probably stay there due to their access to training).
Clothing is expected to be dull colours and very utilitarian with simple jewelery adornments.
Public Agenda
Buckinskeep often asks for shows of millitary strength in foreign affairs. It was force that won them these lands, and it is strength that will preserve the Queendom's strength. There is an element of distaste for Celestarén's ostentacious displays but they are largely together on millitary matters, with Buckingskeep being more likely to encourage stealth and careful planning before unleashing the plans that Celestarén forms.
Assets
Buckingskeep is home to the finest warriors in the Queendom and houses the Queen's Blades, the Queendoms royal infantry. Some of the finest training accadamies exist here, creating fine warriors that behave exactly as instructed. The accademies create excelent foot soldiers, but officers are more likely to be trained in Celestarén.
History
Buckingskeep was once a city state ruled by a Warlord General. They were one of the most aggressive factions in pre-unification Arkenhorn and often swallowed up land with fast and efficient strikes before they were even seen. Somewhat unusually, the land was never held. They would take towns, even cities, from their neighbours only to leave with all their goods and people. These people then existed as serfs and the goods were used for the good of the Keep.
Buckingskeep was the most against the unification for fear they would loose their strength and way of life. It wasn't until the Warlord at the time saw Lady Soirah dominate the battlefield against the goblins of the Frakstan that they decided they would be in good company. And so they joined the Queendom, taking lands from other Duchies as a sweetener, and became the greatest millitary force within the new Queendom.
