Ikos (ee-koss)

Ikos is a form of solidified magic that naturally appears deep within Ithan and can be synthesized as well. The creation of Ikos through synthetic means is a closely regulated and heavily restricted practice in every nation of Ithan thanks to the Ikos Manufacturing Treaty. These regulations and restrictions, in combination with the time-consuming process needed to create the crystallized magic, makes synthetic Ikos almost as costly as naturally formed Ikos. Synthetic Ikos can be of any color and can be opaque as well as translucent. Natural Ikos, on the other hand, is exclusively a translucent purple or blue in color.

Although the tasting of Ikos is forbidden and seen as blasphemy by most, those few who have licked the crystal have found a vaguely sweet taste on their tongues before getting a nasty electric shock. The shock originates from the Ikos itself and can be anywhere from 15 to 60 milliamperes in power.
