Defences
The grand palace is walled off from the rest of the city, providing some central defences. A second ring of walls run around the central city about half-way up the hill. In practice, the second ring of walls is of limited use as defences due to the buildings built right up against them.
Industry & Trade
Feldsonn is a regional hub for trade with nearby farming communities, and lumber from further north. Prize stud beasts are auctioned to the highest bidders here.
Imported luxuries and equipment from abroad often changes hand from one trader to another here. Traders from the Sešinián Republic will bring goods here. Local traders will barter for goods to sell within Feldsonn and distribute throughout Taudarin.
Taudarin is not known for its workers' skill in metalworking, but many of Taudarin's best blacksmiths can be found here, working imported metals into the tools and weapons that keep the country's industries thriving.
Infrastructure
The hill that the city is built upon has small openings that have been adopted to serve as sewers for the city.
History
Originally a farming town named "Fieldstone", the town grew due to the abundance of available food, clean water, and a common path for trading caravans. As the Kingdom of Taudarin formed from its feudal regions, Feldsonn was the seat of power for the line that became the monarchic dynasty - in no small part due to the city's abundant food, central location, road network, and its naturally defensive geography.
Architecture
The predominant construction of buildings in both the city and its suburbs are treated timber frames, thatched roofing, and plastered frontings. Bright colours are rare, and typically only seen in the vegetables of the weekly markets.
The central city is known for its ageing wooden buildings that rise three or four levels above the relatively narrow streets. The ground levels are the oldest, supporting the newer floors that were constructed above them. The few stone buildings are typically only those of military or blacksmiths, as well as the grand palace itself.
The major throughfares are cobbled and wide enough to get a single cart through, with small town squares serving as passing points.
Geography
Sited on a hill, rising between two forks of the river Taundill, the city commands an excellent view from its central and tallest buildings over the surrounding plains and lower hills. The hill's height is somewhat exaggerated when viewed from afar by the relatively tall buildings atop its centre, typically rising four storeys above ground level.
Fresh water is readily available from the rivers flowing past.
