7/27/21 Session 26 - "Burning Down the House"

At the Wizards of Wine Winery the party prepares to confront the blight. Rows of plant men hiss and rustle as they approach. As they are engaged they begin to pick them off one by one, but another tactic appears more useful; Marc Alt casts fireball and devastates the enemy. The vines themselves are lost in this process, but it seems to be the price that must be paid to rid the land of this particular foe.   As the party finishes up handling the blight outside, they head into the house to investigate. As they search, Adrid is attacked by druids and finds a room with two large blight monsters. He engages them and calls for help. The floor is covered in vines from a spell and one druid seems to escape downstairs. The party being slowed by the vines chases down the druid. As Marc Alt finds the vines he lights them aflame nearly burning down the structure. Om Wolfash quickly puts out the flames before they can spread. Adrid binds one of the knocked-out druids as the party dispatches the other outside.   After bringing the druid out to meet the party, Adrid takes a spell to the face and quickly knocks the uncooperative druid back out. Giving the druid a second chance, they get nothing from it yet again, just more silence and resistance. Fredriech Carlston asks the nearby ravens to dispatch the druid after confirming that they were indeed the source of the blight and issues at the winery. After confirming with the ravens where the family was hiding, the party splits for a moment to track down Davian and his ilk. Approaching the grove where the family is hiding the few adventurers are accosted by a large angry looking tree which has seemingly sprung to life.   Our heroes dispatch this tree and find Davian down the road. They explain what happened, but Davian is persistent in pointing out that they let one of the druids escape. Before the party considers chasing the druid down, they ask a number of questions. Davian and his eldest son Adrian seem to not know why the druids attacked and have never encountered them before. They also inform the party that the wards allow them to grow their grapes quickly to meet the needs of the Barovian populace. The party being a bit beat up asks Davian to allow them to stay the night at the winery to recover and stand guard before chasing down the remaining druid at Yesterhill. He obliges and the party finds themselves back at the winery readying themselves to rest.
