Laan'ithilan Council

Following their freedom of Lolth it was decided that everyone of the newly freed drow would be their own person, free to live as they wished. Now a democratic republic exists amongst them

Structure

Archon The main head of the council sits in a position high overlooking all of the council chamber so as to best receive all sides of a debate. The Archon is an elected position from amongst the council and the current bearer must give up all claim to any titles, family names and interests for as long as they sit in the chair. They also spend the entire time they hold the position masked, with an alabaster mask that hides the person behind it.
The Collective of the Wain Originally chosen from amongst the noble families who fought against the Drow in the underdark the Collective has since increased to be open to all members of the citizenry and now positions are voted for by the general population. The terms last two years maximum so as no one can solidify themselves into the nations politics but they can be cut short if the population believes it in their interest to do so.
The Free Citizenry All members of the population are allowed to appear before the council to suggest new policies or edicts. Each new piece of legislature that is put forward is considered first and if successful it will be debated by the Collective before the council makes it's decision as to whether it benefits the Laan'Ithil as a whole.

History

Founded by the first free drow families upon the ascent from the Underdark. Originally only the noble familes had a vote but as none could decide who should lead it was decided that all could lead together to continue their dream of freedom from tyranny. The next problem followed in who should lead the council itself, thus the suggestion was made that one faceless member should rule so as to not to have the ability to put their own families needs first.
Over time it was decided that the free rest of the peoples of the Free Drow were just as important and the councils positions were opened up to all free female citizens and eventually even males were allowed to take council positions.

The Moon Elves live here practically alone but on occasion there are humans, half elves and even rare still are more recently surfaced drow
