Hothus Snail

Hothus snails are the size of cars. They live in the foresty areas of the Enchantment Islands, though they occasionally venture out into civilization to feed on emotions.   These snails form temporary empathy links with nearby people. This allows them to slowly, but safely, eat away at excess emotion, which can actually be a quite calming sensation that people appreciate. After the hothus snail eats some emotion, it changes colour based on the emotion it devoured (ie, blue for sad, red for angry, purple for awesome, yellow for happy, etc). It's basically a living mood ring.

Growth Rate & Stages

They are born the size of normal snails and grow to be their full size over a period of around two years.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It eats mostly leaves, fruits, and tree bark, but once it eats, it does not need to eat for a month. They also need to emphasize, that is to eat the emotions of others. They are very careful however to never take too much emotion to the point where it would be dangerous or uncomfortable.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

After the snails eat emotions, they leave behind trails of goo that can be harvested to make the Mind's Ease potion. This is used to counter damage done by psychic interference. It is often used by the Navy when they fight aberrations, and of course, the Nama trainers keep a very large stock of it. It tastes kind of cross, like mouldy strawberries, but it gets the job done.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are mostly found on the Enchantment Islands and sometimes underwater around those areas. They can also sometimes make their way to the Necromancy Islands, but when they do, they are removed, as Nil and Nor are the main food sources of the Archipelago

Average Intelligence

They've got an int score of like 7, which is pretty high for a beast. But they're not going to start doing arithmatic or anything.
Lifespan
40 years
Conservation Status
It is against national law to harm these snails. Though to be fair, they can sometimes be intrusive and some people consider them pests, but there are official teams who can remove the snails and return them to their environment safely.
