Wayland Giants-Bane

Giants-Bane Wayland

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Wayland was born and raised amongst a nomadic halfling tribe in Fowdya. From a young age, he was forced to contend with and understand the dangers of Iskudar, from giants and slavers to the more mundane like wild animals or poisonous plants. When he was a teenager he was bewitched by the beauty and strength of his tribe's most powerful warrior, Barbara Throat-Eater. Her father rejected his proposals outright, stating that his warrior daughter would not marry some forager cook. From then on out Wayland devoted himself to the life of a Warrior, traveling along on dangerous missions to kill Hill Giants or kill powerful monsters and beasts. At first, he was a pitiful sight, almost dying multiple times and even pissing himself when confronted by a Hill Giant caked in blood. It was from this incident that he earned the nickname Giants-Bane, which would later become a family name for his daughter. Luckily for him, Barbara was usually around to save his hide, much to her father's regret. Through much trial and plenty of error, Wayland became a proficient warrior and killed a troll during a hunt. As his first kill, he took its head as a trophy and sold the body to some Amatracian scientists in exchange for his famed rifle and giant's shot bullets. With this custom forced Barbara's father to accept his proposals, and Barbara promptly accepted. It was on their honeymoon away from the tribe that Wayland almost died due to getting lost from their camp in a rainstorm, and he decided that if he wanted to start a family he should probably do it somewhere safer. Barbara reluctantly agreed, under the condition that she would be allowed to remain with the tribe during the spring, summer, and fall months. Wayland knew of a place his aunt had settled down in. They arrived at Hollow Oak, where Rhody (Wayland's aunt) had set up an ailing curios shop. Rhody gave Wayland the shop and moved outside the town to better practice her potion alchemy. When Barbara found out Rhody practiced wizardry and alchemy she forbade Wayland from allowing their children to interact with Rhody, despite his conscience he accepted these terms and cut contact with Rhody. Soon Waylands only child was born, Wyona, but pregnancy and childbirth left a bad taste in Barbara's mouth and she made considerable efforts not to get pregnant again. This left Wayland with a huge house and only 1 daughter to live in it. With this in mind, he decided to transform it into a tavern. While Hollow Oak already had a tavern it was expensive and exclusionary, allowing Wayland to fill a much-needed void. Since then Wayland has run his tavern, The Waystation, to great success allowing him to become one of the wealthiest people in Hollow Oak.

Gender Identity

Wayland heavily identifies with being a man and doesn't understand or accept gender identities outside of the binary, although he will pretend to keep customers or business associates pleased. Wayland's people have rigorous ideas of gender that change based on what social class the person fell into. For example, it was very taboo for a male forager to marry a female warrior, while a female forager could easily marry a male warrior. Being a male forager also means it is expected of Wayland to do homemaking, preparing meals, and raising children. Some of these traits made him the perfect person to open a tavern-inn.

Sexuality

Wayland is sexually attracted to strong dominant women, making him heterosexual.

Education

Wayland received a forager education from his tribe, making him a very skilled cook and survivalist.

Employment

As a young teenager, Wayland was a forager and barrel turner of his tribe, meaning he maintained the fermenting of alcohol and foraged for various herbs, food, or materials to be used by his tribe. When he was an older teenager he started traveling and fighting with the warriors of his tribe and eventually became one after slaying a troll. Finally he became a tavern master after he realized he wouldn't be having a bunch of kids and he needed something to do with the huge amount of space he owned.
