The Shield of the Innocent Organization in Iskatel: Fortunebound | World Anvil

The Shield of the Innocent

Established during the Spell Wars by a division of the church that felt the Sword of the Twelve was too busy seeking glory against the elves and sorcerers rather than defending the people and the church. Quickly rose to be a ‘little-brother’ to the Sword of the Twelve, though they would call themselves equals. The church recognizes both, one as a primary defense force (the Shield of the Innocent) and one as a primarily offensive force (the Sword of the Twelve).   Because they ‘protect home’, the Shield are often mocked by the Sword, and so are often looking to prove themselves worthy in tournament and battle. They also look for opportunities to out-maneuver and out-politick their brethren and have established a powerful presence within the Nine Kingdoms.   While the Sword can boast near 10,000 members, the Shield can boast the same, and each competes in lands, churches, and cathedrals.   * Shield is a circle of 12 gold stars on a black and white background, split down the middle with the left ( when facing the shield ) side black and the right side white.   Edicts: The Shield of the Innocent is an arm of the Church of the Twelve. Members of the Shield must defend the weak and innocent at all times, regardless of the futility of doing so. Further, all members of the Shield are expected to tithe 10% of their gain to the church. At any time, the church may call up the Shield to defend a place, people, or person and members of the order must obey this summons.
