The Prayerful Brothers

Established sometime around 350 AF. The Prayerful Brothers were established by reclusive monks who did not care for the pompous and political nature of the Sword and the Shield. They pulled peasants and orphans into a makeshift order that swears poverty and service to the people and the Twelve without direct leadership by the priesthood.   A small order at this point, but growing slowly. Does not have much to offer in the way of boons, so tends to only attract those who are truly dedicated to the cause. They defend monasteries and people in small towns in the wilderness. They also take on quests for the Twelve … they are among the most questing and wandering of knightly orders. Some jokingly call them “The Questing Brothers”.   * Shield is two hands, pressed together in prayer, red on a white background.   Edicts: The Prayerful Brothers swear poverty and must never gather wealth except to then give it to the church. They must acquire what they have through supplication and service ( they may, for instance, work several weeks with a blacksmith in order to earn a sword, accept a donated meal at an inn, or keep a backpack found during a dungeon delve ). Members of this order often spend much of their time questing after holy relics and artifacts, or in more abstract questing pursuits of inner-peace or personal enlightenment. While aligned with the Church of the Twelve, the founders did not wish the Prayerful Brothers to fall under the political traps of previous orders and so made them an independent order, not required to follow the supplications of the church.
