The Crown City of Atreus

There is perhaps no city in the world quite like Atreus' capital. This ancient city was founded in an age forgotten to history, that of the Avatars. Some even claim the city stood before the Avatars came, when the Children themselves walked their mother's world in their full power. No matter the true origins of the city, it is grand in a way that is the envy of all others. Even mighty Axia, proud Vel, and stoic Derath City cannot compare, and only old Dralis may have been its superior but where Dralis lies in ruin Atreus remains the eternal kingdom.   In the crown city sits the throne of the Liad, a place of power beyond mortal rulers but reaching into the divine. None sit the throne in the absence of the Liad, and so legend spreads that the very seat itself is a connection to divine power. Of course the powerful and learned call this superstitious nonsense, yet none of them, not even the princes who rule Atreus, have sought to test their assumption.
Whether mere legend or true divinity though the crown city is still one of the greatest powers in the world. The princes of Atreus rule a vast territory, reaching from the north sea coast south of the adamant mountains to the northern edge of the brass plateau and even as far east as the hills north of the Vellan swamp. Beyond this, they maintain peaceful relations with the Forvanni nations to the north, the elven nation of Larathorn in the east, and the city-state of Salahdin south of the plateau. They are even permitted a trade city on the edges of Laratorn, the small settlement of Marren.    Beyond this, the magocracy of Iarunn pays fealty to the Atrean prince and all the Raivanni nations recognize Atreus as the guardian of the dragon lands.    Perhaps the most amazing, and some would say miraculous, thing about the crown city is that Atreus has stood, continuously inhabited and thriving, for longer than most nations have recorded history. Whether the blessing of the all-mother or some cosmic influence, Atreus remains always and truly deserving of the title "the eternal kingdom."
