Myrcus Gayne

One of the most well known Reman Mariners of his day, Myrcus Gayne was an unrivaled explorer, sailor, and warrior. It was said he never spent a night in port, too eager he was to return to the ship and head out to his next destination. While this may well have been an exaggeration it is true that he traveled Rema's seas more than perhaps any other single living soul. He was a common sight as far south as Bissat in Aranel and as far north as Avalier. Some even claim in the Summers when the ice would thin he could travel into the true north and witness sights no other mortal beings had.
His crew was small and though they were loyal to their Captain many could only bear a short time with Myrcus as they longed for shore too often for the legendary Mariner's patience to tolerate. The only constant by his side was Hadiza, an Aranellan mage with whom he shared a special bond. The two of them met shortly before he became a Reman Mariner and were only parted when Myrcus finally met his end after decades sailing the world's oceans.
Among his many achievements, he traveled to many lands no Reman before him had visited, befriended the legendary Adventi Shorekeeper Coam, and waged a personal war against Vellan and Derathaini slave traders.
That last is perhaps why his name is known so widely even after his death, for while the Reman Empire officially banned the practice of slavery they did little to actually halt such trafficking. Myrcus on the other hand was violently opposed to any captivity, perhaps owing to his own wandering spirit even moreso than his morality, and brutally attacked any slave ship encountered. He even once raided Fork Rekkard, freeing countless souls from bondage and hanging the colonial governor. Some even say he may have put an end to the trade from Aranel single-handedly were it not for his inability to remain in the south, as his need to explore drove him ever away from the warm, familiar waters. Nevertheless, Myrcus Gayne is perhaps the most successful diplomat and privateer in Reman history and has inspired many a young sailor to follow him to the waves.
