The Silent King
A tyrant king is not so easily written out of history.
Weaving contingencies upon contingencies, the lich now only known as the Silent King foresaw not only his own demise, but the fall of the great empire that felled him.
Now, as power returns to Isera, vestiges of the Silent King power awaken, and start the wheels in motion for his glorious return.

Personal history
An orphaned child left on the steps of a church of the Angelic Faith, -name unknown- was brought up in the service of Sarilith, the god of light and justice.
He took to the faith, and throughout his young life, he quickly displayed great aptitude for both scholarly pursuits, as well as a great mind for strategy, as well as being a charismatic leader, and proficient fighter.
He joined the Folded Wings paladin order at the age of 15 and quickly rose through the ranks, being officiated as knight commander by age 19.
Soon after his promotion, his home kingdom of Valandra was threatened by invasion by their neighboring kingdom of Kerinth. This invasion, aided by the fell sorcery of a coven of witches, was where -name unknown- became known to the people of Valandra as a hero, and guardian of the realm. He is said to have had a large part in the defense and ultimate victory in the following war, and after this his legend only grew.
By the age of 27, as the war was won and the kingdom of Kerinth conquered, -name unknown- rose to the rank of High Templar within the Angelic Faith.
As his power and popularity grew, the King of Valandra is said to have felt threatened, and attempted to have him assassinated. This backfired, and was ultimately the spark to a revolution, which culminated in the first crowning of -name unknown- as king.
As king, -name unknown- expanded Valandra into an empire, spanning from the eastern coast to the Acherine peninsula. He dubbed this new empire Esarilith in reverence to his god, and throughout the land, the Angelic Faith flourished as it never had before. During this time, the heart of his empire was named the Luminous Plains, as reference both to the prosperity of the lands, and the light of his god.
In the 28th year of his rule, having conquered almost the entirety of Isera, and raised up the Angelic Faith to be by far the most common religion on the continent, as well as having sent hundreds of missionary ships to the other known continents, Sarilith approached -name unknown- directly, in the form of an avatar.
The god praised -name unknown- for his lifelong accomplishments, declaring him a prodigal son and offering as reward ascension so he may serve his cause for all time. Initially, -name unknown- was filled with pride and elation, that his god had taken such an interest in his life and deeds, but the more the incandescent angel with the booming voice spoke of it, the more the king realized that what the avatar offered was nothing more than indentured servitude, and that the reasons for doing so more more self serving than anything else.
To him, the avatar made a mockery Justice, and violated his own core tenants.
He knew he could not openly oppose a god, so he convinced him instead to return, so that he may speak to him of the details of ascension, and of their future plans.
-name unknown- was ready for his return. He trapped the avatar in a ritual of imprisonment, and with the god bound before him, performed his own ascension, now free of the burden of faith. An ascension achieved purely by his own power. As the ritual came to a close, it is said that -name unknown- knelt down by his gods side, and whispered into his ear something to the effect of "Witness, as I become what you should've been." He then plunged the dagger into his own beating heart, starting the long and horrible reign of the Silent King.
The newly immortal King had transmuted the avatar into a phylactery to hold his soul, the mind of the god still imprisoned within it, clinging to the new lich like a veil. It could do nothing but witness as its acts slowly trended towards terror and tyranny.
Over the following decades, the Silent King remade the Angelic Faith. He had the scripture rewritten, and enforced a great cleansing of any tomes containing the older scriptures.
Revolt after revolt was staged. Secret cults popped up all throughout the lands that worshipped the old ways of Sarilith. Advisors and comrades that -name unknown- had worked with for decades, betrayed him. The Silent King crushed them all, each emergency being easier to deal with than the next.
The lich became increasingly fearful, paranoid that everyone was planning his demise, and so became prone to pre-emptively stopping any perceived threats.
The Silent King ruled this way for hundreds of years. Much of the history of this time period has been lost, and it is most often referred to as the Dark Ages.
He was finally defeated 821 years before the Waning, as the Dwarven holds of Kavegg, Berygg and Thraenor came together with the Kobolds of Terga Draconis and the High Elves of Agar i-Tevar all came together in what was known as the War for the Light. He was struck down in his home city of Esarilith by the avatar of Khadis, the dwarven god of Fire. The dwarves soon after discovered that they could not destroy his phylactery, and instead chose to shatter it into pieces, and hide away the pieces in different corners of the world, so they might never be reassembled.
