Berygg
Demographics
The city is around 95% dwarves, with other races only being allowed to live there if they represent some specialty the Thane deems needed enough in his hold to allow in outsiders.
Government
Ruled by the thane Ebgrim. A council of elders, similar to the religious circles of the Holy Dwarven Empire serves as a group of advisors to the thane.
This council is composed of two advisors for each of the pillars of the holy empire. Holy worship, public affairs, resource gathering and creation. This represents well the priorities of the community of Berygg. The advisors of holy worship mostly make sure that dwarves enjoy religious freedom, as well that all decisions respect dwarven traditions. Public affairs advisors are in charge of ensuring the quality of life in the hold. Resource gathering advisors are in charge of trade, import and the mining of the mountain. Creation advisors manage the foundries and great forges of Berygg.
Usually the council is chosen by the new thane, and serve the thane until his death.
History
The Ancient dwarven keep of Berygg is diplomatically considered a neutral city state, not taking any direct part in the long history of wars that have taken place within and around the mountain passes that belong to them.
Berygg has maintained their semi independence throughout the years mostly because the quality of the blacksmithing done in the city has traditionally been far beyond the rest of the world, so the incentive to keep trade open has been a powerful point of sway for the dwarven diplomats. Currently, they maintain heavy trade with Rydia, as they purchase a majority of their food and alcohol from them.
Natural Resources
The mountains of Berygg are known to contain not only large quantities of Iron, but a large amount of Mithral.
