Olympica

This settlement, at the base of the great Olympus Mons, was one of the early colonies on Mars. Though not especially large or significant nowadays, it was a vanguard of colonization, and is a popular tourist destination due to its cable car up Olympus. Olympica is the 12th largest settlement in the PDRM, with 26 million inhabitants. It is also considered as essentially the smallest major settlement on Mars, being the only one with more than 10 million people, and so the smallest to send 3 representatives to the senate.

Demographics

The population is majority born in Olympica, as it received little immigration after the initial colonization.

Government

The Olympican government operates on a semi-lottery system, with a randomly selected citizen acting as the de facto head of the government, as well as filling many of the major roles, of the settlement for 1 years terms. However, the beurocracy beneath is constant, and serves both to implement the ideas of the government while also tamping down the more outrageous parts. The Olympicans hold an election every year to determine which members of government will form their PDRM senate representation.

Infrastructure

While the Settlement is most visible from above by its' large greenhouse domes, the majority of the population live inside Olympus Mons itself, in large lava tubes or in caverns. In addition, the high speed train line and the beanstalk connect to it, allowing for excellent travel
