The Base Cliffs

The base cliffs serve to separate the main peak of Irrum Vath from the surrounding valley. By themselves these features are taller than entire mountains, measuring at over a staggering 2,000 meters tall on the western side. These sheer rock faces give the impression that Irrum Vath has simply risen out of earth.   These cliffs have long formed a natural shield for the mountain, making the only easy points of access the main cave entrances found on the northern and western regions. Would be invaders are either funneled into these well-defended passages, or forced to scale the least impassible slopes to search for cave entrances on high. The native Bajir have traditionally dominated these lower slopes above the cliffs, and of course closer to the peak is the realm of the Lymantria.   Many theories and myths attempt to explain the unique incidence of these cliffs. Some Irra have theorized that the rock of Irrum Vath is more durable than that of the surrounding region, and suggest that the cliffs are the result of the surrounding earth slowly being eroded away. A few Irra even suggest the fringe theory that Irrum Vath is so old that the long ago perhaps the lands of the valley and the surrounding mountains were once ocean instead of land, and that the cliffs denote what was once the coastline of an island.
