Preliminary contact has been made in two locations with an arachnid like race of creatures. One, a warrior type was killed after it attacked a construction crew building power arrays, and another species was encountered by a southern expeditionary force searching for water.
Recently, the colony repelled what appeared to be an organized attack by these organisms.
In a daring retaliatory raid, Samuel Kellevan and a small elite team dropped a prototype biological weapon into the hive, causing severe damage. This preliminary raid was later followed up by a dedicated bombing mission, using a device created by Mathew Hunter and Director Azog.
Lifesign readings taken near the hive have all come back silent, even the birds refuse to linger near the site for long.
A party entered the hive and killed the already wounded queen, ending the threat on the grasslands.
Reports have come in from another faction, The Admiralty, that a hive has been built on their island, and request help in winning it back.
The Taros Collective has also been making advances on southern Taros cities, and the fighting has been largely deadlocked.
The Admiralty officially joined the early UNW and along with Silvano Mazzio, Seung Whitaker, and other notables, they launched an amphibious assault on the island.
The Underhill Overqueen joined the battle, and was slain at the loss of over half the Admiralty fleet, and heavy casualties among the amphibious landing ground force. Purge operations of Underhill tunnel complexes took several months of intense fighting, and occasionally UNW forces land there still to ensure packs of leftover leaderless drones do not multiply.
Although the Gudrun strain is effectively neutered, it has been confirmed that there are strains on other worlds, notably Savita.
