The Sacrificed
The Sacrificed is the title chosen by a collective of digital organisms that inhabit the planet Zeurus.
Zeurus is located behind the L-Gate region is connected to Viggis through a gateway, perched on an island in the middle of the lake outside the Geon settlement there. Captain Verethragna, Dr. Iracus Varanu, and Henri Dukyra made first contact with The Sacrificed on behalf of the New Moon Cooperative.
The Sacrified were once human, and upon being exposed to oversaturated metaphysical energy over generations their organic bodies began to fail. Fierce wars over control of the nano-fabricators, bioscopic machinery, and other organ growing industries reduced their world to a state of ruin. Too little serviceable infrastructure remained to sustain the needs of the organic population, and in a last ditch effort to preserve something of their society, the top scientists and engineers from across the planet gathered.
'The Great Transference' brought the scattered peoples of Zeurus together in one place- a final city too remote to see much of the wider bombing and nano-scrambler attacks. 70% of the surviving population was able to transfer from their failing organic bodies into digital shells.
Almost 200 years have passed since this event, and The Sacrificed have adjusted to their timeless digital shell forms. Their technology is behind other groups behind the L-Gate region, but seem to be the only ones to have embraced advanced robotics. This is likely an attributing factor to their success being adapted to digital bodies.
