Merlon

Race Mechanics https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/B1DAUwY6N   Origin Merlons were first encountered by Tenebrian Empire scouting teams on what was once the southern border of their impressive stellar realm. The planet was immediatley identified as a tropical haven, and the Tenebrians worked quickly to ensure the humans and Merlons alike were made into proud members of the empire. Even a year and a half into The Silence, it took overwhelming proof that the empire would not return for them to agree to join the United Nations of Worlds.   Characteristics The Merlons, and Terezinho citizenry as a whole enjoy a culture of debate. They are fierce warriors when the need arises, but blood spilt is the end result of a number of diplmatic and 'soft power' attempts first. Merlons in particular are often found in the various lawspeaking and debate halls on Terezinho, often times arguing topics for days on end with little rest.   Merlons can remain on land for days at a time, but are most comfortable in aquatic environments. The political and economic nessessities of sharing their planet with humans has caused a shift in their society from undersea dwellings to living on land instead- though their homes are often dominated by large lounging tanks where they spend their idle or resting hours.   Merlons live to the age of 60, though TL4 treatments have extended their lifespans to be about on par with humans. Their biology is sensitive due to their ability to live both on land, and in water and as a result their physiology is far too fragile to allow the mounting of cyberware. Replacement limbs seem to function normally.   The Tide and its Mysteries Merlons have great respect for those in their ranks called 'Tidecallers' , those in touch on a spiritual level with the planet, and those creatures that live in its oceanic depths.   It was determined by a Tenebrian Empire research project that Merlons are indeed MES sensitive. Before The Scream, these 'Tidecallers' were able to use their limited gifts with little fear, but with turbulence in the metaspace they, like humans and now Taros, must undergo training to prevent themselves from torching. The most powerful of the Merlon MES users is titled "Tidecaller Primus" . This honorific is currently held by Eisheru Tidecaller, of The Greystar Confederacy.   Merlons have also reported another, MES like sensation spreading among their numbers, though with no greater incidence than Taros or Humans. This new energy has been likened to magic.
