Limniad

The Limniad is a colorful fish from the primordial and storm wracked planet of Bourgani.
Large storms normally carpet the entire atmosphere of the planet making landing spacecraft an incredibly dangerous prospect. Only two others have managed the feat in the past, and previous to the expedition that had discovered this fish, only one person had ever swam in Bourgani's oceans- a merlon Greystar agent named Rin Kage.
Limniad subsist on a diet of kelp, sea grass, micro-organisms, and occasionally on the floating corpses of other sea life that have risen to the surface waters where these creatures are known to gather. The Limniad is about 5 meters long as a full adult though as a prey species many are eaten by other members of the food chain before reaching this length.
These fish are known to produce several hundred eggs in a single hatching as their eggs are likewise sources of food for other sea life and go through two spawning periods per year- once in the spring and once again in the fall. Bourgani remains a warm planet despite the change in distance from the sun over the course of the year. The constant blanket of storms keeps the water warm enough for Limniad to flourish.
Work is being done to understand more about their place in the food chain. It is also thought that with some minor adaption they might be able to be exported to other worlds as exotic pets or as food sources for struggling aquacultures on planets devastated by The Scream. Greystar Confederation authorities are no doubt looking into the practical application of these fish beyond just a simple food source or beautiful companion.
