The GGR takes desperate measures to prevent a Polish-Imperial German counterattack while the bulk of their troops are fighting in Vienna.

Though the GGR was making massive gains in the Balkans, even reaching Albania, they were beginning to overextend themselves, especially because of the local population proving to be at least partially resistant to mindcontrol attempts of the GGR (at least for now). This led to an increasing amount of partisans.   Using this to their advantage, Poland and Imperial Germany conducted a joint offensive on the frontlines on the Silesian border with Czechia, in order to push back the GGR, relieve their Austro-Hungarian allies... and get some ground between the GGR and one of the few remaining major industrial centers of the Central Powers. While also retaking more priceless military industry in Czechia.   The offensive broke through the overextended GGR lines almost instantly, and the GGR commanders panicked.   Turning to techmaturgic solutions, the GGR mixed a new concoction based on the dreaded Death Gas, but adding new and yet unknown mixtures to it. The unknown concoction was loaded into a shell and launched from a techmaturgically enhanced Paris Gun. Which turned out even more devastating than the GGR expected.   The shell touched down in Eastern Czechia, and it's detonation spread for hundreds of kilometers - unlike the dozen or two that the GGR expected. Nearly all of Eastern Czechia, east of the city of Olomuc, was rendered a wasteland crawling with undead Walkers, poison air that refuses to dissipate, and still yet uncatalogued monstrosities and dangers. What's more, the anomaly refused to disappear overtime.   Both sides have set up trenches at the edges of the blast to defend against things that occasionally wander out, and both sides are looking into ways to cross it in order to gain an advantage against the other... while also trying to figure out what exactly happened when it was created, as the effect couldn't be replicated by GGR thaumaturgists.   The act was met with condemnation by numerous world powers all across the world, and provided further backing to the pope's claims against the GGR. This, combined with pressure from the United States, pressured Britain and France to lessen their restrictions on Catholic priests, but still restricted the pope's radio broadcasts, and threatened severe punishment on any talk amongst their soldiers about joining the pope's crusade directly.
