Forces of the Mad Baron attack and annex Inner Mongolia.

While Outer Mongolia achieved independence from the Republic of China back in 1911, Inner Mongolia remained a part of RoC, despite internal dissent (that in the end, was mostly squashed, though it was far from easy). The area remained in RoC hands until now, being a source of numerous political actions on both sides.   Finally tired with it, and on the verge of Awakening, Roman von Untern Sternberg finally unleashed the wrath of his Mongolian army. With local RoC commanders weak and internally conflicted, the effect was swift annexation. Ever since that moment, the newly announced Mongolian Khanate and Republic of China remained in a state of hostility, but not open warfare.
