The preliminary bombardment of the City of Dresden by the GGR results in mysterious events, an aborted offensive, and further credence to papal claims...


The GGR set its sights on expanding into Imperial German territory via attacking north through the Czechia-Saxony border. Their first target was the now-fortified city of Dresden, just across the border, and they prepared to bombard the city with artillery and aircraft.   As they began launching, the first shell landed directly in the center of town, landing South of the Frauenkirche, the Cathedral in Dresden. The shell, however, landed dud right in the arms of the Lutherdenkmal in front of the Cathedral, with the statue undamaged.   As the bombardment continued, nearly every shell and every bomb landed near or around the Fraunkriche, landing dud around it or bouncing off of its dome.   GGR command was perplexed by the lack of damage to the fortified city and called off the attack. When word of the bizarre phenomenon spread, many people, even Protestants, quickly pointed to the pope's claims that the GGR was a creation of the devil, and that a Cathedral protected the city from a demonic attack. More and more of people (especially Catholics, but it wasn't limited to them) began to believe that the pope's apocalyptic message about the GGR was not a rambling of a madman...   Unbeknownst to the populace, a significant stash of Italian Federation faith-based techmaturgies was being moved through Dresden to the Kaiser Wilhelm Thamaturgie Institut for Professor Einstein to study, after he asked the pope to allow him to study them. According to pope Benedict insistenses, they were stored not in conventional stores, but in churches. O, as in that particular case, a cathedral in Dresden...
