The Marked Ones made their way to the city of the dead. When they arrived they noticed it had fallen to the forces of the Demon Lord Orcus. They chose a townhouse as a base of operations and began exploring the city. They found the demons were looking for the Eye of Azavox and were closing in. The group made their way to its location and met its guardian, the mummy lord Lady Nyx. She agreed to hand over the Eye in return for the artifact mace of the demon's leader. The Marked Ones agreed to steal the mace and found an easy way into the palace. They found a myconid colony beneath the city and their queen, the demon lord Zuggtmoy, agreed to teleport them in. They succeeded in stealing the mace, but at the expense of Erwood's life. Lady Nyx said she would bring him back as an undead, but the group disagreed. They ended up taking most of Erwood's belongings and leaving his body to the mummy lord. Before they could return for the Eye, the city erupted in chaos as the demons began searching for the stolen mace and punishing the repressed population, who revolted in response. The group was forced to leave Erwood and the Eye behind as they fled the city.
