WorldEmber 2021 Summary
I took part in my first WorldEmber last year, and I found it quite an enjoyable change of pace from Summer Camp (which I've done 3 times, in 2018, 2020 and 2021). Last year I took the opportunity to work on some of the bigger topics - big articles that might not fit any Summer Camp prompt and definitely take more than one day worth of work - and I intend to continue with that kind of thing this year by working out some details about the sapient species in Irion.
My biggest goal, though, is to try to make a more stable writing schedule. I have a habit of putting a lot of effort into getting these big competitions, and then just dropping out from writing entirely until the next one wraps around. Which is weird - I'm not the hyper-competitive type. So...my goal is to not flake out when we hit January. I still want to hit 10k words, but that's secondary to the idea of continuing to work on stuff in the new year.
Plans
I'm hoping to have 8-10 articles between 1000-2000 words, plus royalty free image samples (a detail I've been rather bad at remembering to include thus far), including articles on the following sapient species or groups thereof. (I'm not sure I'd use "genus" because they're more thematically similar than anything that would be reasonable for formal taxonomy.)- Humanoids
- Humans
- Elves
- Orcs
- Beastfolk
- Planetouched
- Elemental Planetouched (Better name pending)
- Starborn (divine ancestry)
- Deepborn (infernal ancestry)
Good luck with your goals! To be honest, I do the same as I barely write between WE and SC and then go all out for those. I think the writing routine goal is a very good one!
