A Call for Peace

"A Call for Peace" is a pamphlet that was widely distributed in the last two years of The Great War. Written by Abri of the Pyre, it paints a stark picture of the worsening conditions in both Chelestra and Kinilan, pointing out that within a handful of years, neither country will be able to continue in any form of war.

Purpose

Abri of the Pyre wrote "A Call for Peace" in a desperate attempt to end the Great War, a conflict that had raged for decades already, and showed no signs of ending. It warned that both nations were reaching the point where the only thing that held the country together was the fact that they were united in the fight against the other, pointing out that in this state, victory becomes effectively impossible, for if one country were to capitulate, the other would quickly lose its reason for holding together.   It describes in brutal detail the plight of refugees who have fled the war, and The Embrace's failing attempts to care for those who need it. It warns that before long, there will be riots in the streets of Galade and Antius that would make those that bought down the nobility in Kinilan seem like a gentle breeze by comparison, fueled not only by hunger but by the outrage at leaders who had devoted themselves to a century of unceasing, unwinnable war.   It then offers salvation: an invitation to peace talks to be held in Jabru's realm of the dead, to be supervised by Abri of the Pyre and other followers of the god of death. For in the land of the dead, there can be no betrayal; those who enter the realm of the dead, even temporarily, are effectively dead for the duration of their stay, and one cannot kill that which is already truly dead. Abri also hoped that by holding the negotiations in the land of the dead, the true cost of the war thus far would be made clear to the representatives of both sides, though she was wise enough to leave this motivation out of her invitation.

What a great way to send a message. I love the idea of holding peace talks in the realm of the dead, too, where, you know, murder can't really happen. Would love to see a written/abridged version of the pamphlet someday. :D
