This is the fall of the Khoven Empire shortly after the comet Mythlys Tears passes through the solar system

Several years after the Comet Mythlys Tears passed between Irindors Third moon and the planet, the Emperor of Khoven Amnul, first of the Archmages began to withdraw himself from political strife of his kingdom, taking with him his inner circle and the powerful exarchs of each school of magic. the Khoven army now leaderless, faltered in their assault on the Dwarven kingdom of Argantus allowing a massive counter attack, as one Mage Lord led a selfish and bold claim with nearly a third of the army east to assault Highgate. while Highgate was obliterated, the Thayan Empire was destroyed, the capital caught in its own dangerous spell of a Mage Lord attempting to tamper with one of the Artifacts Amnul had left behind. the army of Dwarves swept through killing those trapped outside the time locked capital, but retreated shortly afterwards, the effects of whatever relic the Thayans had tampered with too dangerous. the remnants of Khovan carried on in the survivors near Highgate, who used their magic to create a foothold for themselves in the Merchant port city of Harberton for several centuries.
