Asmodeus Manipulated his Rival Mephistopheles in the events leading up to Long Night, by sending an Agent to leak several "secrets" Asmodeus didn't want revealed. Mephistopheles had spent eons collecting stray divine essence left from gods, such as Laenara's blood from the Deep Caverns, or divine essence from the Sunsword of Jora. after a lengthy siege of Nevis, though secret passages Asmodeus had constructed solely for the purpose of fooling his rival, Mephistopheles confronted the lord of nine,only to find a new passage he hadn't been informed of. this passage led down, deeper than even the lord of the 8th had imagined Baathos went. it's unknown what happened after this point, only that Asmodeus assumed the power of a god. Mephitopheles was allowed to live, having lost what Divine Essence he had used to assault Nevis.
