Troll

Monsters with legendary rejenerative abilities, these monsters lurk in nearly every corner of Irindor.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Trolls are a strange monstrosity, as they're technically a fungus. they have fungal growths within their bodies that simulate a skeletal and organ structure, but even these are drastically different than other creatures. for example while a troll has a skeletal structure its cells can form semi-rigid forms making them near as strong as iron, and in other isntances the trolls bones can warp and flex in unnatural ways giving them great versatility. the Trolls muscles are similar in that they can become as dense and powerful as needed. While trolls can survive almost entirely on water and sunlight, to regenerate as unnaturally quickly as they do, Trolls must gorge themselves on living creatures.

Biological Traits

Trolls are hyper aggressive species, even as Sporelings a Troll will attempt to devore any living creature in arms length. because of this Trolls rarely join forces and will only operate in groups of three to twelve as it was the highest number of recorded trolsl living together without attempting to devour one another. Troll regeneration is a costly thing, and while it can save a troll from fatal wounds, and even grow new trolsl from severed limbs, Trolls must gorge themselves on living flesh to regenerate in such a manner, the only way to kill a troll is by fire, and sometimes potent acids. Trolls "blood" is a potent and powerful alchemical addative that sells quite highly to those who know how to put it to use.

Genetics and Reproduction

Trolls reproduce through the spores their bodies leave behind when damaged or eating. Trolls "blood" are in fact spores, and givin enough time those spores will grow into smaller weaker trolls. similarly, if a troll were to regurtitate living tissue for whatever reason, their digestive fluids would infest the carcass and eventualyl form a Troll hybrid from the flesh.

Growth Rate & Stages

Trolls begin as spores, and grow in dark moist places, eventually sprouting into stationary smaller trolls who feed on vermin and insects until they grow large enough to uproot themselves. the prossess from spore to sproutling generally takes between three and seven years depending on the amount of food a Troll sporeling can find. after that a Troll never stops growing, though a point is reached where a Troll must gorge on living flesh to keep growing as sunlight and water will only make a Troll grow to roughly 9 ft, generally 500 lbs.

Ecology and Habitats

Trolls generally preffer darker and moist environments, as this allows their spores to take root easier and find available grubs to devore and quickly grow from sporelings to sproutlings. though Trolls can exist in nearly any enviornment that has ample moisture and even lacking that Trolls can survive almost entirely off living flesh.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Trolls only need darkness and moisture to sprout from their spores, and once they become sproutlings can roam to nearly any enviornment that is rich in either moisture or prey.

Biological Cycle

Trolls show no signs of being affected by age, a troll sporeling kept in stable conditions but not allowed to develop beyond its early development cycle will not die of old age, nor will it atrophy.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Varries from Troll to Troll.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Trolls have poor eyesight, their eyes are small and underdeveloped, possibly due to the complex nature of eyesight in general. Trolls do have astonishing hearing and smell, able to track living creatures from miles away. Trolls have the uncanny ability to develop their bodies in unique ways after devoring a living creature. for example, if a Troll were to devour enough elves, the Troll would appear more elflike in apperance, and even grow in dexterity and intelligence.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Trolls rarely develop to the point of using names, though when they do they're often simple things such as "Longfang", or "Stinkwart"

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Trolls, that have developed to a Sapient level, slowly learn the languages of those they devour.

History

Trolls barely qualify as Sapient, and generally only after eating enough flesh of creatures that were sapient. Before this time Trolls are purely instinctual creatures, operating as hyper aggressive carnivores and scavangers until they develop higher reasoning. there is one instance of a Troll Tribe, in the Empty Peaks, where a Troll warlord developed enough intelligence to grow warriors for a small army. this army was eventualyl destroyed by the Ward.

Historical Figures

The only known Troll warlord, who grew a small army of Trolls to do his bidding from his own blood, called itself Onji, breaking all other known naming conventions for Trolls. This creature, Onji, even used simple tactics such as flanking and ambushes to capture living prey for his army. Though Onji and his warband were slain the potential for trolsl to eventualyl develop to the point of Onji or even surpassing him is a frightening notion indeed.

Most trolls are tall, ungainly things that move similar to gorrilas as they had a severe hunch. more developed trolls, after eating large amounts of flesh, will adapt to their prey and take on some of their characteristics.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
