History & Usage

History

Storm Silver was originally used as munitions, due to the volatile nature of the material many considered it too dangerous to be worked into proper weapons. Chunks of unrefined ore were hurled at enemies. As understanding of Magic grew, eventually Storm Silver was used by Wizards to produce powerful spells to manipulate the elements relationship with the Plane of Air to summon storms and call forth lightning. processing Storm Silver into weapons came many years later, in Argantas. during the Endless War with the Khoven many military advances were made to combat the endless hordes at Amnul's call, Stormfused weapons were one such discovery.

Discovery

Dragons were the first to discover the element, using it in some of their experiments to mutate many of their broods into variants of the original Red Dragons. After the fall of their Empire, the Giants would steel the majority of their hordes, which would eventually come to rest in the hands of the Dwarves as the Giants abandoned their keeps during the Curse of Stone's initial surge.

Everyday use

Storm Silver is a component in many spells relating to the Plane of Air, such as Lightning Bolt and Call Lightning, as well as portals to the Plane of Air. Most commonly Storm Silver is used to create Stormfused weapons, or particularly powerful munitions for Dwarven war engines.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Dwarves hold Storm Silver in almost as high a regard as Mithral. Where Mithral is seen as a gift directly from their Gods, Stormsilver is seen as the spoils of victory over their ancient enemy the Giants. Many of the Dwarves most famous armaments have been crafted of Stormsilver and Mithral.

Industrial Use

Stormsilver has recently been used by Gnomes and Wurdgrym Dwarves to act as conduits for many of their inventions, and is a key factor in the Wurdgrym transportation systems.

Refinement

Storm Silver's discharge of lightning makes it particularly difficult to mold, as well as reinforcing the relatively soft metal to weapons grade with other elements such as iron, steel, and sometimes even mirthral. using wards to protect oneself from the lightning discharge Storm Silver can be handled with relative ease however, so long as one is weary of the potential for the discharge to conduct along the smith tools.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Storm Silver is highly sought after by Dwarves, because of the historical value they place upon the material. Other kingdoms value the material for it's destructive capabilities.

Storage

Storm Silver in it's raw form must be handled with care, transported in non-conductive storage or warded cases until refinement. once refined the material becomes bound and can be de-activated in most cases.
