Shade

A blessing from Yheia that grants the afflicted a number of powers.

Causes

Shades are created by having a portion of their spirit mangled or torn away and infused with a portion of Yheia's divine shadow.

Symptoms

Shades often appear pale and corpse-like, and becoming highly apathetic to most situations. Shades exude a black wispy smoke like shadow from their bodies that grows in power in deeper darkness and is gone almost entirely in direct sunlight. When in darkness, Shades gain a number of powers including the ability to teleport between shadows, heal, manipulate the shadows to create blankets of darkness, crate illusionary duplicates and transport themselves directly to the Plane of Shadow or one of the flying castles of Voss.

Treatment

No Shades have attempted to have their condition reversed following the gift from Yhiea or the higher Shades.

Prognosis

Eventually Shades suffer from a form of Soul Rot, which can be treated by further infusions of shadow Essence. eventually Shades lose their corporeal body and become one with Yhiea.

Cultural Reception

Yheia's Shades are the rulers of the Voss, and while there are many among them who may feel fear for the process of becoming a Shade it is the ultimate power in their society. If a Voss desires to rise in their culture, they will eventually have to consider becoming a Shade.
