Damned
Unfortunate souls who were freed of their Spirit Bind, yet not destroyed.
Causes
When the subject of a Spirit Binding is freed of their bondage, they recover their free will. often times the fragmented minds of those freed are unable to exist for long, though in rare exceptions they may endure.
Symptoms
Damned are undead, not the mindless hunger of a zombie nor the cruel cunning of a Vampire. Damned retain the benefits of the Spirit Binding, their 'vessels' are highly resistant to rot and decay, as well as enhanced durability. Damned have dulled senses, making them very durable but they cannot savor the brightness of life. they no longer sleep, and their bodies do not heal of their own accord as other Mortals do.
Treatment
Damned cannot be cured as they are fragments of the whole. faint echoes of who they once were animated and given form, the only 'cure' known is destroying the vessels housing the Spirit Bind.
History
Once the Khoven leadership was scattered, their armies quickly buckled under the combined might of the Dwarven Elf Alliance. as the Necromancers commanding the Spirit Bound were slain free will returned to the undead and they quickly turned on their tormentors. many of those freed of the Necromancers control were mad and violent, attacking any in sight. the invading forces saw no difference between the feral undead and those who retained their sanity through the harrowing ordeal. those that remained sane fled, some to the ruined cities and others south. some even into the dark of the Deep Caverns. cursed with scattered memories of the lives they once had, the free undead would eventually attempt to rejoin their living relatives, only to be hunted and destroyed. there were some who joined under Jora Kampfrun's leadership following these events. Jora treated the free undead as his own kin, using them in his crusade against Anir and those who had spurned the Damned.
