Elven Home

Suffused with latent magic and made of some sort of crystal known only to the elven builders, an elven home is sought after by the rich and powerful, that is, of course, if the magic in the home is not haunted. Everything in an elven home is grown, made from crystal, petrified and hard woods, and smooth stone or ores. Magic is fundamental in the building of such a home, and the elves took those secrets with them.

Purpose / Function

Elven homes were built to sync with the inhabitants, a good elf would have their home enhanced with soft music and lively illusionary motes floating in the air. Walking into an evil elves home can be terrifying, with dark illusions, sounds in eerie pitches, sometimes out of hearing range causing unknown unnerving feelings.

Alterations

When someone moves into an elven home, they alter the furnishing to something more their taste, or cover the existing in furniture with something more suiting comfort. Given enough time, if one can hold out, the latent magic will attune itself to the new resident, providing illusions pleasant or desired by the owner.

Architecture

Smooth crystal walls, nearly opaque, but lets light through in a dazzling display. The light is absorbed into the crystal making the crystal glow a color or pattern determined by the original architect. Seating, tables and beds are part of the building, growing up out of the floors or walls. An outhouse is placed in the back of the house usually made of stone or hardwood. The buildings are at least three stories, sometimes with towers and balconies.

History

Elven homes were built before the demihuman retreat, when elves coming led in cities with other races. Usually built in a district composed of only elves, there are some exemplary structures in the noble districts, and few scattered elswhere. Elves thought of themselves as more than mst other races and made their buildings to be the envy of others. Even the dwarves admire the natural shapes and magical craftsmanship of the elven homes.
