Amarith's Folly

Once a lush hilly area overlooking the sea, Amarith's Folly was turned into a barren desert after the work of mages from long ago. This former rise was (and maybe still is) a wondrous deposit of iron running all through the area. Amarith the Lost researched a way to enhance the natural erosion caused by windy weather. The spell she eventually came up with was far too powerful for the needs of Velnaar. The wind blew harder and faster, stripping the land, taking dirt, rock, the desired iron, miners, teamsters, and animals with it and deposition them into the sea.

Because of the high winds, there is very little rainfall here anymore. One day, it is said, the wind will end and mining will resume; although it is rumored that those that dwell beneath the earth have already begun.

Geography

Amarith's Folly is a rolling desert, sand dances across the dune constantly an ever blowing sand storm towards the sea. Underneath the sands, there are many caverns, both natural and created, housing a large society of allied races unknown to the humanoids on the surface.

Fauna & Flora

Nothing can survive here, what little water bubbles up from below ground is quickly swept away towards the sea. Deep beneath the area, underground dwellers have made pocket societies, some very near the open air in the absence of surface dwellers intrusions.

Natural Resources

Buried beneath the desert are rich deposits of iron, coal, and in some places silver and gold. There is also an underground river that splits off of Surging River, runs to the south, and exits above ground on the edge of the forest to the southwest. This mouth is well hidden in the trees and seems more like a small lake on the edge of the sea.
