Aldinach's Abysm

Taking up the better part of 400 acres, Aldinach's Abysm stands over a half mile high, dominating the horizon for miles around. Few dare to take the six mile trail to the top, only those with the demon's fear [curse] will preform Aldinach's Procession and toss something (or someone) they cherish into the cauldera.   Rumors persist that the Needles of Malaise persist in the area, welcoming those who have come to sacrafice to their dark mistress.

Purpose / Function

With such a dark past, Aldinach's Abysm is rarely visited anymore; hundreds of souls were sacrificed to Aldinach in the name of new prey for her to toy with. The Needles of Malaise kept a constant vigil near the summit. The peak vigil was kept safe by dig deep trenches dug by future sacrafices in the hope that their souls would be spared. When the thick lava would rise up and spill over the edge the trenches helped to direct the flow away from the vigil. There ar still remains atop the mountain; a stopping point on Aldinach's Procession to prepare the gift.

Sensory & Appearance

The heat near the mouth of the volcano is near unbearable but decreases significantly the lower you go. A breathtaking view is marred by the smell of sulfer and brimstone wafting through the air and the unmistakable shiver of the hundreds of dead permeating this area. The silence of death embodies the mountian, the only sound coming from your companions or others creatures seen along the way.

Denizens

There is very little wildlife here, what is present thrives on scavaging Rats, giant flying insects, cockroaches and coyotes all make their home here. Elementals connected to the Elemental Plane of Fire roam near the top of the volcano as there is a portal inside the cauldera to that plane.

Valuables

There are still remains of the Needles of Malaise secreted away among the mountain trails. Most of the remains are structures, but head priests were sometimes know to keep their treasures hidden in secret caches.

Hazards & Traps

Heat rises as the top is neared. When rolling random encounters, the top most number is always a lava flow coming from above. Players must explain how they escape or preform a skill check of 8/3
