The Iron Bastion colony now known to the world as Chainhold was - in recent memory - known as Hespira, the Hanging Garden; an independent island nation in the Bastionward direction from the Verdant Isles.
With Hespira falling victim to pirate raids, they welcomed the assistance from ships of the Iron Legion, though in ridding themselves of the pirate threat they unwittingly welcomed a much graver threat to their way of life.
Over the course of the next few years, a growing Iron Bastion presence turned the once honey-scented air into that of oil and coal-smoke. The Bastion's mining operations - seeking to unearth the wonders of the Hespiran soil - tore the foundations so deeply that the very islands themselves began to list and tremble. Seeking the only solutions they knew - one forged from iron - the Bastion's engineers forged great chains, anchoring the failing lands to their untouched neighbours, allowing their mining operations to continue.
Now, while there are still those in the world who remember the name "Hespira", there are few who remember the beauty of its agriculture, or the splendour of its artisans. Now there is only smoke and ash, the heat of the foundries and the creaking of strained iron.

History
It has recently come to light that the pirate raids on Hespira were part of a false flag operation by Varik Stormforge, with the intention to eliminate the Hespiran elders and claim the lands in the name of the Iron Bastion.
Points of interest
At the centre of Hespira, a silver-leafed elder tree once loomed over its surroundings, reflecting the radiant light of the Iridescence in a beautiful kaleidoscope across the city.
In Chainhold, the tree is long dead, yet its frame still stands, used as a place of execution for any locals who stand against the Bastion's leadership. In mockery of the city's former glory, the occupying garrison of the Iron Legion have named this area "The Hanging Garden."
