Thaxian Ethnicity in Iria | World Anvil

Thaxian

Thaxians are widespread and can be found in most regions. In general they are fierce and disagreeable, which could sometimes lead certain other races to view them with contempt. They are renowned for their diversity and ambition, and although they lacked specialization, they could excel in many areas.
Description
With their penchant for conquest, Thaxians are more physically diverse than other common races. There is no typical Thaxian. Thaxian skin shades range from nearly black to very pale, and hair colors from black to blond (curly, kinky, or straight males might sport facial hair that is sparse or thick. Their hair and eyes can be a variety of different shades and colours, some natural some not so much.
Personality
Thaxians are the most adaptable and ambitious people among the races. They have widely varying tastes, morals, and customs in the many different lands where they have settled. When they settle, though, they stay: they build cities to last for the ages, and great kingdoms that can persist for long centuries. An individual Thaxian might have a relatively short life span, but a Thaxian nation or culture preserves traditions with origins far beyond the reach of any single Thaxian’s memory. They live fully in the present—making them well suited to the adventuring life—but also plan for the future, striving to leave a lasting legacy. Individually and as a group, humans are adaptable opportunists, and they stay alert to changing political and social dynamics.

Thaxians dream of immortality, but (except for those few who seek undeath or divine ascension to escape death’s clutches) they achieve it by ensuring that they will be remembered when they are gone. Thaxians who seek adventure are the most daring and ambitious members of a daring and ambitious race. They seek to earn glory in the eyes of their fellows by amassing power, wealth, and fame. More than other people, humans champion causes rather than territories or groups.
Society
Having such a wide variety of cultures every Thaxian city can be completely different from the next, even when they are in close proximity with one another. Most Thaxian societies are focused on creating and recording history that can help them live as long as the other races that are around them. Thaxians are a work hard play hard kind of race. When you're working you work, you can muck around but they always make sure the work is done and that it is done well, once work is finished its normal for them to spend hours in taverns drinking away the hard work day. Despite their xenophobic nature Thaxian settlements often house many different races, and the Thaxians could be found within many different races. Be it for conquest or simply to learn more from those with years more life experience the Thaxians explore and intermingle with the other races easily.
Classism

While all Thaxians recognize achievement over anything else, something out of the ordinary is often shunned. Females are rarely warriors or working in trades, they cook, have a penchant for magic and serve in the taverns and brothels. Then men are the warriors, the protectors and the tradesmen. The achievements of anyone that doesn't fit this norm are either over played as a massive feat when it was really something small, or are dismissed meaning they need to achieve more to be granted the same level of recognition. This is only what is considered the average for Thaxians, not the way all settlements think of act.
Justice

Most justice within Thaxian society is enacted by females. Gernerally considered to be more level headed and studious more of the judicial system is run by women. There are strict laws and strict punishments very clearly described and enforced by the judicial system and the guard that protect the city both internally and externally. Different crimes have different punishments and most are judged by a jury of people at least slightly separated from the incident and people involved. For smaller infringements, or in smaller settlements, one or two people may decide on the conviction and punishement as they crimes are reported to them. There is a tendancy for people to be seen in a neutral light until they are proven either innocent or guilty by evidence and logic.
Religion

Unlike many of the other races, Thaxians do not lock themselves into a small collection of dieties to worship. Many do not even venerate their own patron diety chosing instead to focus on those gods who can help them or further their pursuits. Farmers may come to worship Haster, while blacksmiths favour Bronyss. Thaxians are known for their prayers going to a reason rather than a person. An adventurer may send out a prayer for good travels rather than worship Lida, and in the next moment they may send out a prayer for safety in battle rather than worship Lazak.
