Irn Ethnicity in Iria | World Anvil

Irn

The Irn like the other Elemental Races are less likely to seek out and make friends with the other races. They will call races with similar considerations to their element a friend but are not likely to get into fights for those friends, unless it affects them as well. The Irn are a less likely to explore far from their homes.
Description
The Irn can be mistaken for many of the other races of Iria simply appearing to be very pale until they are seen more closely. Some Irn can have something of the blueish tint to their skin but most are very pale almsot completely white while looking somewhat translucent even up close. Their hair is often vibrant blues all the way through to white or grey or silver in colour. Their eyes tend to be the most colour part of their being with blues, or purples being more dominant with few getting grey eyes. People can be mistaken for thinking there is always something of a breeze around an Irn as their hair will often shift by an unseen breeze though many people cannot tell if this is just a trick of the mind or something distinct to Irn.
Personality
The Irn are fast and free-willed. While the elemental races see one another as parts of a larger family this is particularly true for the Irn, and the bloodlines of many Irn are so old and so untraceable that Irn, as a whole, tend to view one another as cousins, even those they've never met before. Likewise, though this bond of kinship is strong, it is also highly competitive.

Irn are proud of their heritage and are cautious about letting outsiders into their close knit family. Irn see themselves as the inheritors of the sky, the wind, the very air of the world. Their free-willed spirit often makes the Irn prone to emotional outbursts. If they are tied down they can exhibit outbursts of anger that doesn't always stay verbal. If people try to control them they can react in much the same way, and rarely apologise for such actions blaming others for trying to 'cage' them.
Society
Irn, regardless of whether or not they're actually related, tend to view all others as part of a larger extended family. However, in spite of this, Irn are still fiercely independent and view one another through a competitive lens. Unlike the members of some races, who might feel inclined to help others of their race, Irn feel no such compunction and see the weakness of others as a reaffirmation of their own worth. The powerful drive and strong willed nature of Irn makes them in some few cases, excellent leaders, but any leadership position is often challenged by others.
Classism

Those with power hold the power to the Irn. If you are strong, quick, or smart eough to outplay someone then you are more powerful than they are. No matter the circumstances. There is no difference between a female or a male, a child or an adult, the Irn will respect the one with the power. Like the other elemental races the only exception here is those chosen by Zatara. Even those chosen often take on challengers to stay in her favour and prove their worth as being important to the family.
Justice

Justice to the Irn is the ability to beat your opponent. If you someone is able to defeat you, or take your possessions it is on you to get them back. While this is normal to the Irn they understand that other races have different rules, and this just enforces their desire to stay within their own lands. If there is ever a time where the Irn seem evenly matched it is taken to one of the chosen and it is their decision as to who has 'won' based on who they personally think showed more power or ability in the situation. This is determined after seeing and hearing from both sides without input from the other. Arguing with someone over what happened is seen as a weakness so the Irn often are left with their wit to help them if their opponent is lying.
Religion

Like the other elemental races the Irn worship the current Elemental Lord above anything else. The Irn who venture further from their homes in Therelis may find other dieties to acknowledge as worthy but they will always be true to their elemental lord.
Relations

The Irn are the homebodies of Iria. They mostly stick to their corner of the world and rarely come down from the floating islands where they have made their home. Their close neighbours, the Ias, are one exception to this with many envoys from both visiting one another in the smaller city of Selen jsut south of the mountain near their home. Few Irn adventure much further than that apart from those within the City of Light who have made something of a home amoung the Cas and are there simply for communication between Irn and any of the other races.
