Cay Ethnicity in Iria | World Anvil

Cay

The Cay like the other Elemental Races are less likely to seek out and make friends with the other races. They will call races with similar considerations to their element a friend but are not likely to get into fights for those friends, unless it affects them as well. The Cay are a more likely to explore further from their homes to learn and experience the world.
Description
Many Cay carry obvious traits from the Elemental Plane of Fire, such as coal-colored skin, flame-like hair, and fiery eyes, but these traits aren't the only ones available to the Cay. Unlike the other elemental races, the Cay have a lot more diversity in their physical appearance, especially when it comes to their skin tones. With fiery hair and bright eyes the Cay are often a beacon amoungst the other races standing out where ever they go.
Personality
Cay are generally energetic and quick to act, and often impatient. Cay are known for their passion, creativity, spontaneity, inspiration, and competitive spirit. They desperately need to be inspired to be happy. The Cay need to constantly mix things up to be truely happy in their life resulting in them knowing many skills but never really mastering any of them. Very few can comfortably sit and read a book for more than a few minutes before they are seeking a new task to stimulate their need to do something.

Like the Irn, the Cay are a competitve race, though not quite to the same extent, They like to say they are the best, are happy to show they are the best, but don't turn everything into a challenge they need to beat. If they are beaten, however, they can become rather grumpy as they do like to be first. The Cay are also risk takers, if there is something everyone is uncertain about the Cay is probably already going to do it while the rest talk about their options.

As they stand out so much around many of the races in Iria they often care a great deal about their appearance, and dress flamboyantly.
Society
Out of all the Elemental races the Cay are the closest with the other races of Iria, both positively and negatively. While they have a strong sense of family and connection to their home world their impulsivity and desire to constantly do things tends to drive them from their volcano home and out into the wider world. There are few places in Iria where the Cay cannot be found and are not accepted.

In Sune the Cay function as they do away from home. There is rarely the same person working a store for more than an hour, they are open and welcoming to all even those who they don't get along with (Though they do advise the Vy not to visit). There is rarely a time when the city quietens down. When some sleep others are awake keeping the town running. Many outsiders see the Cay's society as hectic and with no set structure but to the Cay this is normal.
Classism

The Cay care little for classism. If you can do something you should do it, if you cannot you should learn it. The only exception here are children who are adivised to play for as long as they can before they need to work. Those who have 'mastered' a talent are considered teachers within the Cay and they pass on their knowledge until someone else proves to know more and the roles swap. Like the other elemental races the only exception here is those chosen by Mayis. They tend to believe that Mayis has chose the best of them and they rarely challenge this. They are one of the first races who will defend someone in a role their race doesn't think they belong in.
Justice

Because the Cay are so widespread throughout Iria their sense of justice is a little warped. Many who have settled with other races adopt their sense of justice and those who wander are more likely to adopt a 'finders keepers' kind of mind set. This has made the justice system in Sune something of a mess with everyone putting in their own input and changing it on a whim. There is something of an unspoken rule within Sune that everyone involved in a crime or perceived crime will travel to the city of light and ask for them to solve the problem before they can themselves.
Religion

Like the other elemental races the Cay worship the current Elemental Lord above anything else. The Cay who venture further from their homes in Sune may find other dieties to acknowledge as worthy but they will always be true to their elemental lord.
Relations

The Cay are considered 'friendly' by most in Iria, even if that friendship isn't wanted. They are happy to travel, to help, to hinder and to the turn around and leave seconds later. Many forges have had Cay assist them for a few days before they simple vanish, sometimes reappearing days later as if nothing happened. If you have a Cay in your life this is just something you need to accept. Their proclivity for knowing many things to some level is helpful in many situations so adventuring parties are happy to have a Cay on the books so to speak even if its for that rare moment where they know how to do something.

While many of the races do tolerate this impulsiveness there are still tensions within some of the races. Because of the very being of the Vy the two races tend to avoid one another. The Ilcian's welcome the Cay but not within the Emerald Grove. This is familiar with many other races accepting, welcoming, and 'teaching' the Cay, away from anything that might catch on fire.
