Blacksmithing

Skill Requirements

Blacksmithing Mind 1 , this is the skill for blacksmithing   The entries below represent the tiers in the blacksmithing skill required to craft certain weapons and armors with certain rarities of metals. (small and medium shields count as medium armor, tower shield counts as heavy armor)

D tier metals Requirements

Accessories and miscellaneous items - 1 tier   one handed weapons - 2 tiers   two handed weapons - 4 tiers   medium armor - 4 tiers   heavy armor - 6 tiers

C tier metals Requirements

Accessories and miscellaneous items - 4 tiers   one handed weapons - 5 tiers   two handed weapons - 7 tiers   medium armor - 7 tiers   heavy armor - 10 tiers

B tier metals Requirements

Accessories and miscellaneous items - 8 tiers   one handed weapons - 9 tiers   two handed weapons - 12 tiers   medium armor - 12 tiers   heavy armor - 15 tiers

A tier metals Requirements

Accessories and miscellaneous items - 15 tiers   one handed weapons - 18 tiers   two handed weapons - 22 tiers   medium armor - 22 tiers   heavy armor - 30 tiers

Material Costs

A blacksmith will need to either purchase or acquire a certain amount of ingots for a particular metal in order to craft the desired item (note certain materials are used in their raw state and do not need to be processed into ingots). While rarer metals will often have to be specially most metals of F-C rank, can be bought in towns and cities. Below is a guide as to how many ingots are required in order to make an item:   Accessories and miscellaneous items 0.25 ingots   A set of three tiny weapons (throwing knives, caltrops, ect.) 0.5 ingots   A dagger and other small weapons 0.5 ingots   one handed weapons 5 ingots   two handed weapons 15 ingots   small shield 5 ingots   medium shield 8 ingots   Tower shield 25 ingots   medium armor 15 ingots   Heavy armor 40 ingots

Crafting Time Costs

The amount of time to craft to craft an item is dependent on the material and the number of ingots used, for the purpose of how much time is needed, an item is always counted as at least 1 ingot (aka something that costs 0.5 ingots to make would still take the time of something that costs 1 full ingot).   Generally before C rank metals, a single ingot is equivalent to 1 hour, as such an item that takes 40 ingots, would take 40 hours, however, it should be noted that items don't need to be made in one go, but the crafter must spend a minimum of 1 hour on a work session for the item. C rank ingots take 2 hours per ingot, B rank ingots take 4 hours per ingot, and A rank materials take 8 hours per ingot.   However, It is possible for a blacksmith to reduce the amount of time needed for them to craft an item in particular. The crafter can reduce the time by an hour per the amount of tiers they surpass the items requirements by for a minimum of 1 hour usually. For example : an iron greatsword takes 4 tiers and 15 ingots, meaning it would normally take 15 hours, however, if the crafter has 8 tiers in blacksmithing the greatsword would then take 11 hours to craft. Finally, if the crafter has 10 or more tiers than is required, they instead reduce the crafting by 2 hours and can reduce the minimum time to 30 minutes.

Masterworking

To be able to masterwork a weapon or armor you have to exceed the skill tier requirement by double (ex you need to have 4 tiers in blacksmithing to masterwork an iron dagger).   Masterworking a weapon or armor multiplies however much time you would usually take by double.

Selling

selling a non-masterworked weapon/armor will always sell for Half of the base cost of a weapon because merchants need to make a profit.   selling a masterwork weapon/armor will always sell for 2 times the price of a non masterworked one.   (EXAMPLE: Dagger base selling price = 100, crafted Dagger selling price = 50, masterworked dagger selling price = 100 (rounded down if needed)

Blacksmithing Materials

F Grade Materials

Mercury -

Uses unknown to most blacksmiths, used on occasion for jewelry, pigmentation, and medicines.

Gallium -

go ahead, make a sword out of this and watch it legit turn to goo as it hits the enemy.

Inutilis -

An odd ore with a slight greenish tint, whilst solid it is so brittle that it is night impossible to excavate without having it being left as dust, curiously once in a dust like state its melting point soars vastly. Blacksmiths have found this to be by far the most useless material in the world, there was once a ten thousand dreon competition to see if any smith could make a tool or weapon worth using out of this material… no one succeeded.

Bone -

The only somewhat usable material, the bones of common animals are used in the outskirts of society where they are unable to obtain a superior alternative. However, it should be noted that the bones of particularly strong monsters, such as those from the Fierce Deserts have bones of much higher quality than those commonly found.

E Grade Materials

Luma -

Think of this akin to titanium, but with its pros and cons raised to the extreme, it is so light and lacking in weight that it is comparable to a feather, to blacksmiths this has made it so that nothing but the most delicate of tools could be crafted with this material due to the inherent instability and brittleness of lacking weight.

Stainless Steel -

While this type of steel resists corrosion, it is not suitable for weapons or armor due to dulling quite rapidly from large impacts such as being used in battle. Because of this, stainless steel is mainly used for kitchen or torture tool, however, on the occasion a noble or merchant wants to appear intimidating they may commission a weapon or armor made from stainless steel that they can pass on over the generations.

Gold -

Pretty much only usable for decorations or ornaments, much too soft to make anything noteworthy with. The Ore of which is commonly found within Stisedo noted by some within the nation being because of the craters in the region. Despite this, Stisedo still has a high demand of the metal due to the large amount of rich nobility alongside the extravagant or simply eccentric.

Silver -

Essentially the same as Gold in terms of uses, most of it is also sent to Stisedo however, Zaveron has recently been requesting and purchasing more silver in recent years.

Copper -

whilst better than making a weapon out of mere stone or other weak metals, copper is a sub optimal metal. Due to copper being found primarily in Kelazhur it is frequently used by lords to adorn their elite troop’s weapons or armor. In the fierce deserts some tribes' weapons also consist mainly of copper due to not being able to find anything else alongside most desert tribes' refusal to trade with those outside the desert.

Bronze -

Alloy consists of copper, zinc, and tin. Same issues as copper with the added benefit of not rusting. However, because of how a large quantity can be easily made it is often used in forging paups.

D Grade Materials

Iron -

No explanation required, its iron, you know the rest.

Titanium -

lighter than your average sword and due to the higher than average heat required it is generally sturdy for its weight. However, its downsides should be noted that the blade will dull faster than the average metal requiring maintenance more often than a regular blade, alongside this due to the decreased weight the impact and strength of the weapon or armor in question will be lower.

Dead Iron -

An interesting recent discovery in Stisedo has found a process to make a form of ingot out of dead biological material such as trees and other fauna through utilizing specific Irae techniques. While not as innately reliable as Iron it can technically be produced or found anywhere as long as you have a specialist who knows the proper directions in creating the material. This makes one of these specialists invaluable on long expeditions into foreign or unknown territory in the case that the expedition’s equipment is destroyed or lost for whatever reason.

C Grade Materials

Steel -

No real explanation needed, it's like better iron, although it needs to be artificially created and not found.

Fucium -

An odd ore generally found within the upper ends of a mountain. For whatever reason it has the unique property of combining the traits of two metals, however, it should be noted this does work for every combination of metal. Nonetheless, Its unique appeal has raised demand significantly for the more creative blacksmiths over the Mainlands.

Star Opal -

A variant of the gem commonly known as opal, these gems are found within lakes and ponds. They gained their namesake from their quality of glowing in a particularly spectacular way through the water under moonlight, said to be reminiscent of a perfectly starry sky. These gems have unprecedented sharpness, however, they dull extremely quickly, if you're unlucky you may only be able to use anything produced by these once, because of this, they are often used to make ammunition and the like as ammunition for bows and crossbows can rarely be retrieved.

Mudslide Stone -

As the name implies these rocks are often found within areas that have recently undergone a mudslide. The stone, similar to mud, retains some slippery like properties, alongside being somewhat light compared to most heavy metals. It is most commonly used by assassins and thieves for lighter armor that can save them a couple of nasty hits by having the assailant's weapons just slip by. While this sounds amazing, it should be noted that weapons that do not slip easily such as spears or ranged projectiles, do not get affected by this as much, additionally, the slippery effect runs out eventually, requiring the wearer to have a whole new set made.

B Grade Materials

Blaze Stone -

A miraculous ore which can only be found in the most scorching deserts and the most violent volcanoes in the world. When a weapon is forged with this ore it will inhibit a high degree of heat, to the point where most simple clothing is instantly set ablaze. In Zaveron it is one of the three key materials used to forge a weapon for a knight upon receiving their title as a full fledged knight. One of the primary reasons for this, is that the ore is best used to construct a heavy bladed or pierce oriented weapon that can lodge itself deeply in the opponent to burn it from the inside out, particularly useful for Zaveron knights who fight Iraeidin every day as their internal defenses aren’t nearly as strong as their external defenses making

Blizzard Stone -

A miraculous ore which can only be found in the areas exuding a unending biting cold alongside the frozen depths of the northern seas. When a weapon is forged with this ore it will have a frost like aura around it, those who have fought users using a weapon made from Blizzard stone regard the battle as being extremely difficult due to the weapon’s nature of slowing and dulling those who it injures. In Zaveron it is one of the three key materials used to forge a weapon for a knight upon receiving their title as a full fledged knight. One of the primary reasons for this, is that due to the nature of the ore, it is particularly useful for Zaveron knights who fight Iraeidin every day as it can slow down Iraeidin who would be overtly fast and hard to hit. It should however be noted, that the smaller a weapon is the smaller the area that gets slowed is.

Tungsten -

Extremely heavy and durable the largest downside of tungsten is that it can be brittle so it is not preferable to bladed or sharp weapons. Tungsten is most easily found in mines near heavy volcanic activity.

Hableor -

Durable, Sharp, and even… flexible, this odd metal harbors an odd quality of being rather flexible, which makes it unsuited for weapons and armor as it is not rigid enough to deal or sustain a blow. Usually this metal is used for rich eccentrics that use things like a whip or experimental unorthodox weaponry.

Krysallium -

An odd luxury material that gives a deep violet shade once processed, often combined with gold, platinum, or other luxury metals. Other than this some who have a massive amount of wealth will build entire sets of armor from this material as it is somewhat resistant to Irae energy, although as a trade off it is barely as strong as iron towards physical attacks and spirit magic.

A Grade Materials

Gale Stone -

A odd ore that is lighter than air, legends say that this ore is formed in the sky itself, and due to this the ore can only rarely be found in small amounts carried by the wind, the only time large amounts are able to be gathered is by those willing to brave a tornado. Arms made with this material take on an almost ghostly form, being impeccably sharp and effectively weightless this weapon is the preference of those who prioritize swift accurate strikes. On the other hand, armor made with this material will make the user lighter as they feel like the wind is carrying their every step(+2 dex). The largest downside of gale stone is its notable lack of durability, however, while arms and armor made with gale stone are incredibly easy to destroy, as long as at least half of the weapon remains, it will reform itself after 4 hours.

Thunder Stone -

A mythical ore produced from bizarre circumstances, it is said that this ore appears when a rock is struck by lightning... twice... within a short period of time. Due to the extreme unlikelihood of these circumstances, this ore is very difficult to obtain, as once found they are often quickly sold at an auction house. Making armor from this material is impossible, however, the weapons made by this ore are incredibly powerful, their elemental prowess exceeding that of any of the other "elemental stones" in terms of raw power. Every strike delivered from a weapon made with thunder stone will impart a power electrical transference, additionally, should this be used in creation of a larger weapon, should the user perform a particularly heavy strike, a thunderbolt will descend from the skies to strike their target alongside their blow.

Dragon scale -

A scale of a dragon is as rare for a blacksmith to find as it is to actually make something with it. There are many complications to acquiring a dragon scale, first, you need to get to the spiritfolk clans continent as dragons are only found there. Next, you need to hope you come across someone who is willing to part with the scale for ANY amount of money, if not you will need to hire dragon slayers, which isn’t just expensive, but also extremely illegal within the continent. These steps alone dissuade many from even attempting to acquire a single piece. However, when one tries to actually make something with the scale, they run into even more problems. To start the scale can not be molten like normal, instead they must be precisely carved and shaped. But that isn’t even the worst part, dragon scales are tough enough that you must carve them using a tool which serves as the antithesis of the element of the scale. For example, if you have a scale of a fire dragon, you would need tools made out of Blizzard Stone. From there on it is a battle of perseverance and skill to make the most out of the scale, although a single scale of an adult dragon is the equivalent of 75 pounds of iron in terms of how much you can make with it. Lastly, while it should be obvious, but weapons or armor created with scales will have significant resistance to their element of origin, and sometimes even have a unique property as well.

Ultimate Materials

Spark Of the Abyss -

Iraeidin are creatures of destruction, using Irae energy is as natural as a regular person moving their hands or feet. For this reason, it is extremely rare to see a Iraeidin wielding a weapon, wearing armor, or otherwise utilizing some form of mundane tool, but when it is seen, the Irae in question is often very powerful. Regardless, the implement of which the Irae carries will be rapidly corrupted due to the intense pressure of its Irae energy, this transforms and alters the very core nature of the implement becoming a different and new material. Should the Iraeidin be killed, the weapon will be left behind but in a weakened state, with the proper techniques, it is possible to re-forge, and subsequently re-energize the tool. However, doing so is not an easy task, the blacksmith would require a Irae Mage on standby to constantly suppress the inherent Irae energy of the implement, even then, this would only make forging theoretically possible. Once the Irae energy is suppressed the smith would need a forge of incredible heat, heat so intense that merely by being in its presence most individuals would suffer intense burns. Should the smith fulfill all these conditions it is possible to craft a new implement, from the depths of depravity and dangers, as such, most blacksmiths who have succeeded, have referred to this new material as the Spark of the Abyss.

Zyraneth’s Light -

A radiant and magical gem which often appears in complex geometric shapes with a mix of emerald and ruby like coloration. Zyraneth’s Light is a gem which was first discovered in the nation which once resided in the Iraese Wastes, the people of that time used the overwhelming number found in their land for weaponry, as its sharpness and durability was, and still is, practically unparalleled to most metals and materials. These arms and armors are what lead to the now nation of the past becoming the effective superpower of the world, only to fall to their hubris to the cataclysm of Iraeidin. It is said that the only ones capable of crafting Zyraneth’s Light into a weapon or armor are smiths who were allegedly “blessed” regardless of the authenticity of this, there has yet to be a reliable method of forging with this material. In current day, due to where the gem is found, to see one is like seeing a rain shooting stars, to see a surviving armament crafted out of one is a myth which anyone would easily doubt were you to claim merely laying your eyes upon one.
