Golden Guard
The Golden Guards are the elite bodyguards of the faith, shrouded in mystery, prestige, and awe. Incredibly powerful, they have achieved an ability and level of power unparalleled by few mortals. They have a single mandate: protect the Prophets from any harm. There is no judgement or action too harsh in fulfilling this sacred duty. Anything or anyone judged to be a threat to this single objective is dealt with- with severe prejudice.
They champion gold-encrusted armour, covered in glistening jewels and shining runes and holy scripture. Their armour is heavy and thick, with no exposed skin; even the eyes of these veteran templars are hidden.
Wielding powerful religious artefacts and weapons, each Golden Guard has their own unique weapon, embued with the power of a God. Some have partaken in pilgrimages across the continent, acquiring materials to forge their own weapons which they pray to be blessed. Others spend years searching for ancient tombs or ruins, excavating and exploring for martial relics from eras long ago.
Requirements
Golden Guards must be extremely prolific in martial ability, and must have proved themselves across a kong and distinguished career within the Church. Typically veteran Paladins and Templars are those selected, however, Righteous Zealots are also eligible for selection. No Golden Guard has ever been chosen who has served less than 20 years within the faith from adulthood.
Appointment
Selected by the Holy Prophet himself, Golden Guards are inducted in a secretive and closed ceremony within the Divine Pantheon.
Responsibilities
Their single responsibility is the safety and security of the Prophets. As such, they organise the security and defence of the Divine Pantheon, and accompany each Prophet wherever they go. Occasionally they are given leave for specific, vital, tasks of the faith- but these are infrequent and sign of the severity of the situation.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The Golden Armour of the Golden Guards is an awe-inspiring sight. Beautiful beyond comprehension, it shines with a supernatural sparkle, the gems and stones adorning the armour glistening regardless of the weather. Encrusted into their armour are protective runes and holy scripture- those that get close enough to them swear they can hear the faint whispering of these texts. The armour is so colossal and large, it is impossible to tell the gender or person underneath it- if it was not for the racial discrimination within the faith it would also be impossible to tell the species of the person wearing it.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
There is no dismissal from the post. There is only service to the faith from selection onwards. Death is the only retirement from being a Golden Guard. When a Golden Guard becomes too old or inadequate to fulfil their duties, they are granted the honour of the Gift of the High Knife.
