Mana Theft

Level: 5th
School: Abjuration (Void)
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you see a creature within 60 feet of you casting a spell
Range: 60 ft
Components: S
Duration: Instantaneous   You attempt to disrupt and steal the mana of the mage's spell for yourself. You and the target magically clash, rolling opposed ranged spell attacks or melee spell attacks when cast within 5 feet of the target. The creature casting a higher level spell gains a bonus to their spell attack equal to the difference in spell slots' levels (i.e., a 5th level mana theft targeting a 3rd level spell grants the mana theft casting creature a +2 bonus to their spell attack roll). If the opposed roll results in a tie or the target succeeds, nothing happens. If you succeed, the target’s spell fails, has no effect, and you gain a spell slot equivalent to the spell that was cast (this does not increase your maximum spell slots, but can exceed the maximum).   If the spell slot is of a higher level than you have available or exceeds your maximum spell slots for the respective level, it lasts until you finish a long rest. You may only cast spells you are normally capable of casting at a higher level with an acquired spell slot above your capabilities.
