Ipholas' Spellplague
Unlike the Forgotten Realms' Spellplague, Ipholas' Spellplague was brought upon the world as a punishment from the goddess of magic following the Second Fracture. For the duration of nearly half a century, all traditional weave-based magic ceased to function. Though this was a major setback in the progression of arcane magic and caused the destruction of many magical items of lesser signifigance, new methods of casting were developed, including void magic, veriturgy, and cruoromancy.
Following Ipholas' Spellplague, larger scale magics became significantly more difficult to cast, now generally requiring mythallars---many of which were destroyed during the purge of greater magic that was the Spellplague---to act as mana batteries for the casting, as well as an alternative casting method to the now heavily regulated weave---the most often exploited method being void magic, that which operates on the entropic forces within the gaps of the otherwise orderly weave.
